The Bible is full of verses to affirm and encourage our mothers, and other women who love us as mothers. We’ve gathered a few of our favourite verses to inspire your treasured women, and perhaps provide some ideas when writing a Mother’s Day card.
The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.
They gave her this blessing as she parted: “Our sister, may you become the mother of many millions! May your descendants be strong and conquer the cities of their enemies.”
She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
You will be a crown of splendour in the LORD's hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, praises her: "Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all."
For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. (quoted by Mary in Luke 1:53)
Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfil His promises to her.
Honour your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
A kindhearted woman gains honour.
God is within her, she will not fall.
I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.
Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.
Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewellery, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.
Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when he said to me, “Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere me as long as they live in the land and may teach them to their children.”
She is worth far more than rubies.
